About

The building’s design draws its queues from the historic context and buildings within the Western SOMA Light Industrial and Residential Historic District. However, its modern sensibilities and approach toward detailing deliver a building design that is distinctly of its time. The Project’s two frontages along 7th and Langton Street offer different interpretations of this approach. The proposed 7th Street facade is organized with a traditional base, middle and top with proportions that relate to the immediately adjacent industrial neighbors. The building is clad with black terra cotta tile that has a look akin to brick – an essentially modern interpretation of the district’s brick buildings. The proposed Langton Street facade is a more contemporary approach, particularly because it is surrounded by a more eclectic mix of building ages, types, and styles. The building is clad in a smooth gray cement plaster that is akin to the neighboring concrete industrial buildings. It is highlighted by an all glass bay projection that angles to face Folsom Street providing it some presence to this busy thoroughfare.
